American Airlines baggage info:
-one 50lb check in luggage
-one carry-on. dimensions should not exceed 22'' x14''x9'' (length x width x height)-inches. no weight limit.
-one personal luggage- laptop bag, backpack, shopping bag (should be able to fit under the seat in front of you). No weight limit.
*If you wish, you may pay $40 extra for another 50lb check in luggage
*Tip: to play it safe, make sure the weight of your check in luggage each doesn't exceed 1lb over maximum allowed weight. Some representatives are more lenient than other but you never know when/if you'll get them. If you packed a box, you don't want to go through the hassle of re-opening and re-sealing it. But just in case you go overweight anyway, make sure you have a friend or family member nearby to take your item home and bring extra tape to reseal your box. It is also helpful to think ahead of which item is least important to you should you come across this situation.
Check out the American Airline's website for more details.
TSA Item Restrictions for both check in and carry on luggage:
Anything that is flammable and explosive is not allowed on neither check in and carry on luggage. Other than that, make sure you place all of your liquids weighing more than 3.4 ounces in your check in luggage. To avoid the hassle of inspections all in all, check in all liquids. Also, sharp objects such as knives and scissors should be checked in unless they are 4in. or less.
For a comprehensive list of prohibited items, check out TSA's website here and here.
*Tip- Have a family member or a friend stand by the entrance of TSA check point until you have made it through. If by any chance a prohibited item makes it into your carry on luggage, you can request for that item to be given back to a family member or friend. Make sure you put in a kind request. They have the authority to discard your item should they see it as a threat.
